King Flute Studio

Instruments and Equipment

Students need a reliable instrument, in good working order, to make proper progress and get pleasure from their playing.
A poor quality instrument is not suitable for a serious student. Please contact me for recommendations for flutes, especially if you intend to purchase one.

All students should have a notebook, a music stand and a metronome.

Recommended Instruments for beginners and intermediate students:
For Rental - Armstrong or Yamaha brands. Young students with small hands should rent the Jupiter Prodigy (Suzuki) model. Intermediate- a silver plated body with solid silver head joint, open hole with B-foot. Again, ask me before you buy, or even better, bring in the flute to your lesson before you buy.
Please don’t take your “nice flute” outside to march with (Or ever leave it in your car)! If you only have a silver intermediate level flute and nothing to march with, please ask your band director for one to borrow to march with or purchase a cheap beginner level flute for outside. Rain, snow and extreme temps will ruin your pads and corks which is a costly repair.

I will also occasionally (2-4 times a year) find that new, fresh music and/or a more advanced method book would be beneficial to you or your student. I will write the title and publisher in your notebook and unless you ask me to order for you, I will expect to see these books before a month’s time. Parents, please try to do this as quickly as possible, as this will help to keep your student motivated and excited about his or her music.

Because of copyright laws, and because artists depend on the sale of music for their livelihood, we discourage using photocopies of music. Music may be purchased from any music store, or borrowed from a Public Library. If you are loaned a studio copy of sheet of recorded music, expect to replace, if lost or damaged.
